Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie

20131104_135347

This stuff right here…….this stuff right here……..

This my first ever true product love after going natural. I mean we were inseparable for a while…..this was the only product I used for twist outs for as long as I could remember….then I got the product junkie itch and I just don’t know what happened. Now don’t get me wrong, Shea Moisture curl enhancing smoothie will always have a special place in my heart…I keep an extra jar cause You Can Never Go Wrong using this product but I just found other products to experiment with for a while. Sad to say I don’t like any of the other products from that line. The shampoo tangles and strips my hair, the conditioner is not great for the price, and the soufflé is more of a hot mess in my hair. The hair mask are ok but I wouldn’t go out  of my way to purchase them….but the curling smoothie in always in stock in my closet…..especially if Target, CVS, Walgreens, or Walmart has the BOGO sale……don’t you just love a good deal….definitely comes in handy when that inner product junkie starts to surface.Anyway, I use this to retwist my hair at night as needed or as a moisturizer for a wash n go.

Elasta QP Olive Oil & Mango Butter Moisturizer

20131104_135338

Ok ladies….So I have some thick kinky curls on my head and those light hair products don’t do a thing but make my hair laugh (hahaha really : |) so I had to let my inner product junkie run free until I found this jar of lovely. Well I was actually having a product junkie relapse at a hair show in ATL and it was in a gift bag so it kind of found me….Any way we together……This make the best moisturized twist outs a girl could ever want. Even though I’m not being my extra animated self, I really do like this product. Definitely a must try. The first time I used it I kinda threw to the back of the closet…..I know, shame on me….but myself said give it another try and I did…..whoola…..instant bond.

Giovanni 50-50 Hydrating Calming Conditioner

20131104_135251

OMG Ladies!!!!!! Once again I can not tell you how much I love this product:

1: Great slip                                                     4. Silicone Free

2: Please light sent                                        5. Detangler

3: VERY moisturizing                                   6. Sulfate Free

I actually kicked my dear TRESsemme Naturals which was my staple product that I thought I loved until I used this….. I’m telling you ladies this stuff is like crack for your hair…..Well maybe that was a bad analogy……but you all understand where I’m coming from. I and both of my daughter have cerebral dermatitis and after changing out staple products to the Giovanni line flare ups have decreased drastically. I don’t receive any type of profit for promoting these products……I just hands down have nothing bad to say except they should have the bigger containers in more convenient stores like Target and Walmart. <= Both of those locations sell the product but in the smaller container which is like between $6-$8 depending where you go. I have heard that some TJ Maxx and Marshalls carry the big containers but I haven’t seen them in my area. I actually ordered mine from www.massagewarehouse.com

Giovanni 50-50 Balanced Hydrating Clarifying Shampoo

Giovanni 50-50 Shampoo

OMG!!!!!! I have been on a search for a moisturizing shampoo since forever and let me tell you BABYYY this is ITThis shampoo is the business ya’ll!!!! My 4a/3c hair was out of this world dry and nothing seemed to help. I have the scalp condition cerebral dermatitis and shampooing my scalp is a MUST, however it wasn’t the best thing for my curls. Leaves my scalp perfectly clean and awesomely moisturizes no matter how often I need to shampoo my scalp. Most naturals find shampooing to be too harsh on their curls and I definitely agree and would much rather use techniques like the curly girl method. There are actually a number of women with this scalp condition and for those of you who do suffer with it, I would definitely suggest you try Giovanni’s 50-50 moisturizing shampoo.  I promise it’s like Heaven in a bottle. An absolute must try ladies!!!

The benefits I found:

  • moistures
  • cleans without leaving hair feeling stripped
  • light but nice sent

Please comment and let me know how you feel about this product……I mad it my staple shampoo.

*I am not paid to endorse this product. Purchased and chose to use this product for my personal reasons.

Say what, Say Who, Say Porosity??!!

Having trouble fighting frizzy hair and retaining moisture? So did I!!! Well, finding out about the porosity of your have can be a start to helping get rid of this problem. So, what is porosity??!!! Porosity is your hair’s ability to absorb moisture. There are three categories of porosity in which your hair can be categorized.

  •  normal porosity
  • low porosity
  • high porosity

Now I know you are probably thinking, how in the heck do I know which category I fall under and what does each category mean? There is a simple test that consist of taking some of your hair an putting it in a cup of water……….WAIT CHICK……don’t pull any of your hair out, your hair sheds enough to where you can just take a strand from your comb or brush.

  •  Normal porosity is when your hair accepts and retains moisture just fine (it would be great if everyone fell in this category), leaving you with not a lot of work to do when it comes to keeping your hair moisturized. Well of course you still have to moisturize but it doesn’t require as much work as someone with low porosity. When testing porosity , normal porosity hair sinks but it will do so at a slow rate.
  • Low porosity is when your hair has a hard time accepting moisture in and letting moisture leave the hair. In the porosity test, low porosity hair will not sink after sitting in water for a long period of time.
  • High porosity however is when the hair has the ability to accept moisture in but as fast as that moisture comes in it leaves. This is the category my love curls fall into!!! I would cleanse my hair and use products to try to keep moisture but just no luck. Every morning I woke up my hair would feel a dry annoying mess.until I found out about a method and products that worked for me……….which came after many trials of products (good excuse to bring out my inner product junkie, hehehe)The trick for me was a great moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, leave in, water based moisturizer, hair butter, and an oil. In the porosity test, this category of hair sinks fast.

What’s Your Hair Type??!!

hair-types                                                              524261_333156283414188_291073130955837_943184_600180157_n

*Let me first start by saying these are not my pictures posted, just a visual aid to help you ladies have an idea of what your hair types is.

Now, if you are natural or in the process of going natural you most likely have heard of numbers and letters that categorize your hair, known as hair types.  For informative purposes or just in case you haven’t, above are pictures that can help give you an idea of what category your hair falls in (once again, not my pictures above). These categorizations are not to determine which hair type is better than another. All hair types have advantages and disadvantages leaving neither of them better than another. It’s about how you work it!!! My hair is majority 4a/3c but I have two patches of 4b. Most naturals will find that they have more than one hair type in their head full of kinks, curls, and coils which makes each natural unique. So below is a picture of my natural kinks, curls, and coils in a wash n go.

Wash Day Regimen

Wash Day Regimen

I start by shampooing with Giovanni’ss 50-50 Balanced shampoo. Followed by conditioning with Giovanni’s 50-50 Balanced Hydrating Calming Conditioner and deep conditioning with Giovanni’s Smooth As Silk Deep Moisture Conditioner. Afterwards in wet hair I spray Keratin & Green Tea Restructurizer and apply Giovanni’s Direct Leave-In Weightless Moisture. I then air dry hair for an hour and apply a quarter size amount of Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie to the entire head. Then I apply Elasta QP Olive Oil & Mango Butter Moisturizer and Extra Virgin Olive Oil to a section and twist the hair. This is done once a week which is mostly a Sunday because this is my wash day.
